Operation Bac Ninh

During the summer of 2008, Venture scouts from Mount Argus, Walkinstown & Leixlip took on their biggest challenge yet.  They travelled to the Bac Ninh area in North Vietnam to refurbish an orphanage.

The orphanage was the home of about 100 young infants, and 120 students with hearing disabilities.  The group were in Vietnam for 18 days and worked in association with the Irish - Vietnamese adoption agency 'Helping Hands'.  While there the group refurbished 9 of the main bedrooms, an office, the facade of the building, got beds repaired and bed cloting replaced.  A huge amount was achieved while there.

Commenting on the project, Project Leader, Noel O'Connor said "In total fifteen people travelled with the Group, eleven of who were between the ages of 16 - 18, both boys & girls.  It was a wonderful yet very challenging experience for the Venture Scouts, both physiclly & mentally.  They had a chance to make a real difference to the lives of these children, they had a chance to mix with local people & also see some of the wonderful sights of Vietnam"

Over the course of the year, the group worked tirelessly fundraising for the project.  We thank everyone that supported with this project.

While in Vietnam, the group kept a blog, click here to check out the work!!!

This work was yet another example of how Ventures can change the world.

We are aiming for our next big project to take place in 2010, keep checking in for details.
