Dublinia County History
The Dublinia Scout County came into being in January 2004 with ten member groups. The groups that are members of the Scout County are 45 th Mount Argus, 35 th Donore Ave, 91 st Bluebell, 94 th Walkinstown, 52 nd Harrington St, 61 st Merchants Quay, 44 th/93 rd Crumlin, 6 th/7 th/8 th St. Marys College, 15 th Port/78 th Ballyfermot & 139 th Chapelizod. The county was quick to get moving in January and had its first official County Board Meeting on 12 th January in the Parnell Road Den. At this meeting the first county team was put in place, the County Commissioner, Chairperson, Secretary & Treasurer were all elected.
The Dublinia Scout County has two sides to it. First of all there’s the programme side of things that is led by the County Programme Co-ordinator, this group of people deal with the programme events for all sections from Beavers through to Venturers. They are also responsible for the County Youth Forum for Venturers and Scouts. The county programme deals with all aspects of scouting from leadership training, skills training and fun events. The programme team must ensure that the programme of the local group is supported. You can email the Programme Coordinator for info on up & coming events.
The other side of the county team deals with administration and development. The Commissioner is mainly responsible for this and works with the County Management Committee, a committee that is made up of representatives of all groups in the county. The Commissioner must promote the development of the county through S.Q.S. He is also responsible for maintaining a support structure for groups that need it and ensure that groups are being run in line with Scouting Irelands guidelines and policies. It is through these mechanisims that the county can provide the best support for groups.
The most important thing to remember is that the county is not something that is ‘out there’, it is every member youth & adult working together to ensure the best possible scouting experience and the continued growth of scouting in Dublinia.
